The Five Paragraph Essay

Alastair Cook was a renowned and a successful school owner who had contributed towards educating thousands of students who achieved outstanding grades in their studies. It had been twenty-seven years since he had opened this school.

After so many years he sat down with a sigh amd tried to recollect his memories about what inspired him to develop a passion of gardening, not for fruits or flowers, but for a class of elite students who would develop his country. It all started when Alastair was a young kid.

Back then, a gardener used to work in the back yard of his house growing and tending to all the plants. The gardener used to water the plants, spray insecticides and pesticides etc.

This idea motivated him to study and work hard to open a school. After facing many troubles, he finally gathered enough funds to open a school. First of all, he selected a three storey building with a massive playground. This was like ploughing the land before sowing the seeds. After the process of ploughing came the process of seeding. The seeds of his garden were children who were admitted to the school after passing an admission test. The test was intentionally difficult so as to allow only the best students to enter the school.

The students who passed the test could be compared to the HYV High Yielding Variety of seeds which are more likely to produce better results. Succeeding these came the steps fertilizing and watering the seeds. These were done by selecting the best books for the students and selecting the best teachers who would shower them with knowledge. Co and extra-curricular activities like debates and soccer matches enhanced their mental and physical strengths.

Lastly came the process of imposing rules and regulations and mantaining discipline which are very necessary. He gave harsh punishments to the students who misbehaved. Bad conduct and lack of discipline are like insects and pests which can ruin the whole plantation.

To counter these rules, restrictions and punishments acted like insecticides and pesticides. These measures, which were influenced by gardening helped to produce the fruits and flowers of his garden.

Students who graduated from his school got jobs at notable ranks who together catapulted the society towards success and boosted his country's economy and reputation. Tears of joy filled Alastair's eyes as he closed them forever knowing that he had done a great job to serve his country.

Address of the writer Subject: The paints on the school premises are worsening day by day. The number of sports facilities is quiet low and those that are available are being maintained poorly. The laboratory has not been renewed after it caught fire a couple of months ago due to the lab accident.

The wash-rooms and water closets are also dirty with strange drawings all over their walls and some do not even have sufficient water supply. New sports facilities should be provided. The ground in the west corner of the school is currently of no use and wild grass has grown there. It should be mowed so it can be changed into a football pitch. After renewing the lab, new microscopes, chemicals and other latest equipment should be brought so that the students can stay up-to-date.

Some class rooms are being used fro nothing. New subjects should be offered so that we can maximise use of the spare capacity. After the premises have been repainted, new windows should be fitted as most are damaged. These would increase the visual appeal as well. These may look very expensive in the beginning but in later times, it would increase our student strength and would enhance our school's image.

The students will have more curricular and extra-curricular activities to take part in. However if these problems are not overcome with firm resistance, they would undermine not only our number of students but also our reputation as a school. I hope that my report is good enough to convince you to take immediate action against these severe issues. Sunday, 8 September Passion of Gardening. Friday, 22 February A cordial request.

Friday, 9 November How important is it that people should marry and remain together permanently? In my opinion, it is very important for people to get married and remain living together permanenetly.

There are a number of reasons to support this view and opinion. Firstly, nobody is perfect so we should not expect that the person we are getting married to would be an angel and will live peacefully and do nothing wrong. Secondly, knowing each other takes time. Even in a love marriage, two different people require time to adjust with each other and become familiar with each others' lifestyle.

We should not make abrupt decisions like divorce right after marriage as this will crumble our image in the society. All of us should try to amend our own mistakes and give time to others to amend theirs.

Permanent relationship means happiness forever, not only for ourselves but our off springs likewise. If we keep on quarralling with each other on petty issues, this would have a bad impact on our children's brains. The kids should not be deprived of the love of their parents and divorce means that they are deprived of their right.

The number of single parent families in America has risen at a very steady rate thanks to unhealthy relationships. The kids require both, the strictness of their father and the politeness of their mother to become successful in life.

They would be adversely affected if their parents kept on having quarrels or have divorced each other and are likely to do the same later on in the future. However if they grow in a peaceful and ideal environment, they would also do the same when they get into a relationship. Good relationship between husband and wife would set a great example not only for their children but for the society as a whole.

Most, if not all, other couples would also be impressed and will try to do the same at their homes as well. These will impact the overall society in a great way. Hence proved that it is very important for people to marry and remain living together permanently. Write a story based on the following: The best introductions "grab" the reader's attention and make them want to keep reading.

Some effective strategies for creating an introduction include: Jot down an outline for the remainder of your essay. Outlining involves developing a basic structure for your essay, which can help you stay on track while writing drafts.

Look over your notes and invention exercises and think about how you can organize this information in an outline. Think about what information should come first, second, third, etc. Just try to get the major ideas on paper. Collect all of your notes and materials. Before you start to write, gather together all of the notes, books, and other materials that you will need to reference in order to answer the essay prompt effectively. Support is essential for an effective English essay, so do not try to write your essay without these materials.

If you have time, read through your notes before you begin. Make sure that you have your outline handy as well. You can build on your outline by expanding on each of the points in the order that they are listed in.

Include topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph. Topic sentences signal to readers what a paragraph will discuss.

Start each of your paragraphs with a topic sentence so that your instructor will be able to see that your ideas progress in a clear, direct manner. Develop your ideas as much as possible. Make sure that you include as many details as possible throughout your essay. Remember that padding filling in with meaningless text or using extra wordy sentences is not an effective strategy for writing essays because instructors can see right through it. Your instructor has probably read hundreds of student essays over their career, so they'll know when an essay has been padded.

Fill your essays with details that make your essay useful and insightful instead. If you get stuck, some good strategies for developing your ideas include: Returning to the invention stage.

This includes exercises such as freewriting, listing, or clustering. You can also revisit your notes and books to see if there's anything you missed or forgot. You can find a writing lab on most college campuses. They are free to students and can help you improve your writing at any stage in the writing process. Talking to your instructor. Take advantage of your professor's office hours or one-on-one appointments. Meet with them and discuss ways that you can improve your essay before you hand it in.

Cite sources using MLA style citations. If you use any sources at all in your essay, then you will need to cite them using the style that your instructor prefers. MLA style is the most common citation format used in English courses, so you will need to know how to use it. Provide in-text citations as well as a works cited page at the end. An MLA style works cited page starts on a new page at the end of the essay.

Provide entries for each of the sources that you used. These entries should include the information necessary to allow the reader to find the source with ease. It's necessary to include an in-text citation for any information that you quote, summarize, or paraphrase from a source.

Work towards a conclusion. The general structure of an essay usually goes from broad to specific. You could visualize this tendency as an upside-down pyramid or as a funnel. By the time you get to your conclusion, it should feel as though the information in your conclusion is inevitable.

It's essentially a recap of everything you've spent your whole essay trying to prove. You may find that you want to use your conclusion to: Qualify or complicate the information in your essay Suggest a need for further research Speculate on how the future will change the current situation.

Give yourself plenty of time. Leaving your essay to the last minute is not a good idea. Try to allow yourself at least a couple of days to revise your work. It is important to take a one to two day break from your essay after you have completed it.

Then you can come back to it and revise with a fresh perspective. Focus on improving the content of your essay first. Some people only focus on the grammar and punctuation when revising an essay, but this is less important than the content of your essay. Answer the essay question in as much detail as possible. Reread the essay question or assignment guidelines and ask: Do I have a clear thesis? Is my thesis the focus of my essay?

Do I include adequate support for my argument? Is there anything else I could add? Is there a logic to my essay? Does one idea follow the next? If not, how might I improve the logic of my essay? Ask a friend to read your essay. Having a friend or classmate take a look at your work can be helpful as well. Someone else may catch simple errors or notice something else that you missed because you have been looking at the document so much. Make sure that you swap papers at least one day before the paper is due so that you will have time to correct any errors that your friend finds.

Read your essay out loud. Reading your essay aloud can help you to catch simple errors that you might not have noticed otherwise. As you read, correct any errors that you find and make a note of anything that you think could be improved, such as adding more details or clarifying the language. Analyze the topic or essay question.

Take time to read over the essay question or guidelines and think about what the assignment is asking you to do. You should underline any keywords such as describe, compare, contrast, explain, argue, or propose.

You should also underline any central themes or ideas that the assignment asks you to discuss such as freedom, family, defeat, love, etc. It's important to have a clear idea of what they want before you start working on the assignment. A well-detailed answer that satisfies the assignment requirements A clear and direct piece of writing that is easy to follow A polished paper with no minor errors, such as typos or misspellings.

Think about what you will need to include. Consider what you will need to include in your essay. For example, if you are tasked with writing about a character in a book, then you will need to provide lots of details about that character. This will probably require rereading some passages of your book as well as revisiting your notes from class. Do this by creating an outline and checking your work for logic.

Start early and give yourself lots of time for revision. Try to complete your first draft about one week before the paper is due. Invention exercises can help you to draw out details that you already know, which can give you a great jump start on writing your essay.

Some useful invention exercises include: Write as much as you can without stopping. After you finish, go over what've written and underline or highlight any useful information for your essay.
